Rennie trained at Dancentre from 1998 until 2002 when he successfully auditioned for the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School dance program. He commenced at VCASS in 2003 and graduated at the end of 2005.

Rennie was selected to present both of his 2005 VCE Dance solos in the VCE Season of Excellence, Top Class Performance at the National Theatre, St Kilda and his Composition Solo in the VCE Season of Excellence, Top Acts Performance at Hamer Hall.

He progressed to the VCA tertiary dance course (now part of Melbourne University), and is currently in his final year of a Bachelor of Dance.

Rennie is a highly skilled dancer, accomplished in Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Funk, Tap and Musical Theatre.

As a student of and the VCA, Rennie won the following awards:

  • Dancentre Theatrical Achievement Award 1998
  • Dancentre Jazz Achievement Award 2000
  • Dancentre Senior Achievement Award 2002
  • Anne Woolliams Best Dancer Award, nomination, VCA 2005
  • Encouragement Award, Friends of the VCA 2007
  • The Joy Nichols Award for Merit, VCA 2008
